Floor Striping

Floor Striping

Floor striping and parking lot line striping are too similar. They just have different dimensions. I use the same techniques for both jobs. All my techniques are in my book.

Cleaning

I’ll leave the cleaning to you. In the past, a floor scrubber with water has worked well.

Re-Stripes

These aren’t too difficult. Most of the time, it’s after hours and self explanatory. Paint compatibility may be an issue. Dry times may also be an issue.

Layouts

The most important dimension is between the poles. If you know what you need and you know the spacing, lay it out. And, most jobs that fall into this category will have a drawing / blue print that should be supplied.

Schedule

This is the tough part. If the floor is always open, the job may need to be broken up into many small jobs / trips. If the paint needs to “Cure” (24) hours or even (48) hours, we block that portion of the floor. If the job then requires a clear coat on top of that, another (24) or (48) hours would be needed. When can we have the floor ? What type paint do you need ? When do you need the floor back ? All that goes into the bid.

Paints

I’ve seen expensive, high tech paints peel off a floor in four foot sections. I’ve seen cheap enamels snap off a floor leaving only an oily residue. ( I’ve also used simple traffic paint, several times. Depends on the need. ) I’ve had a company choose against my bid, one year, and call only me, the next year. I’ve had a company accept my bid, call me back for another and invite me to Texas for another.

It’s not rocket science, but many times, it is a one shot deal, especially when you consider the schedule.
